Food Photos & FitBit

yep, I totally look like this when snapping foodie photos!
 Now that I've got your attention..grin...I have a couple of tidbits to share this morning. First of all, despite initial hesitation, I've accepted my friend Allan's Food Photo Challenge. The rules are: you must take a picture of everything that goes into your mouth (except for water) before you bite it, and then post the pics.  Whoa, pretty intense, right? If you follow me on Instagram or Tumblr or even Facebook, you know that I love "food porn" and post a lot of foodie pics, but not every single meal & snack! It's not going to be easy, but the goal is to really look at what we're eating, and hold ourselves accountable. Scary but sensible, right? I also bought myself a little gift this week, in honor of my new eating/fitness plan: a Fitbit. In case you haven't heard of these little gadgets, it's a fancy-schmancy monitor that tracks your daily activity. More advanced than a pedometer, it even has the capability to monitor and assess your quality of sleep! (Since that requires wearing an arm band to bed, I don't think I'll be taking advantage of that option. Chip agrees). The best part: Fitbit has teamed up with Sparkpeople, which allows the syncing of nutrition & activity at both sites! How cool is that? Now, let me warn you: this thing isn't cheap. I paid about $90.00 for it, but considering how much I was spending on WW;s monthly membership & their Activelink subscription, this is a bargain!


I love that it's so small, can be worn discreetly attached to my bra, a plus for me since I was forever dropping/breaking/losing those bulky pedometers. And unlike other similar gadgets, I enjoy being able to see my progress. With the push of a button, the total daily steps are displayed, prompting me to either pat myself on the back or, more likely, get up and move my buns!

So, here goes. Today is the first day of consistently monitoring what I eat as well as how much I burn.  Wish me luck!


  1. I'm so glad you decided to join the challenge! I love Fitbit. Unfortunately, so does my dog and she's eaten 2 or 3 of them so far :( I pre-ordered the new bracelet-looking one that should be coming any day now. This time I think I'll actually "register" it in case this one gets eaten also. Lol!

  2. Laura, lol, BTDT with Loki as a puppy! He doesn't chew now, thank goodness, but it cost us a couple of couches and a whole lotta other stuff.
